_ cheers, teylyn Community Moderator www.teylyn. What happens when you add a new chart into that file? What happens with the chart when you open that file? It may very well be the sample with the two lines.įile used in my screenshot. Copy the link and paste it into a comment here, then I can access the file. Then select the file and click the "Share" command, then "Get a link". In OneDrive there is a folder called "Public".
OneDrive is free online storage from Microsoft, tied to your Microsoft account.
The Edit Series window will open up, then you can select a series of data that you would like to change. Right-click the axis you want to change and navigate to Select Data and the Select Data Source window will pop up, click Edit.
and log in with the same user account and password you use for this forum. Select the Chart that you have created and navigate to the Axis you want to change. That's why I would like to see your file. In short, I cannot reproduce the problem. I sent the other line to the secondary axis and brought the first line back to the primaryĪxis. The X axis still shows the correct labels. I created the data set in Excel 2016, selected the data and inserted a line chart. Everything I do here I do as an unpaid volunteer, spending my own free time to help people with questions about Excel. I can feel your frustration, but let's clarify something: I don't work for Microsoft. Jon Peltier Peltier Technical Services, Inc. Since they are not included, Excel just uses 1, 2, 3, etc.įrom one of the secondary axis series formulas, and paste it into either of the primary axis series (either one, Excel fills in both), and now Excel knows what to plot on the primary X axis. The primary X axis uses the X values for the primary series, which are not included in the series formula. The chart has primary and secondary Y axes, and only primary X axis. I know I have typed this in a very longwinded manner however if you work through it, it turns out to be incredibly simple. As I suspected, two of the series, the lines on the primary axis, nave no X values. I simply moved that data series to the bottom so that future users do not make the same mistake and now change the label data based on a highlighted primary axis data series. As the secondary axis data range is first in the list it is the default highlighted one and any changes I made weere for the secondary x axis (which at this point does not exist). What I failed to be aware of is that when changing the Horizontal Axis Labels information in Select Data Source, what you change relates directly to the data series that is highlighted in the Legend Entries box beside. In the Select Data box, the first data series that shows is my higher range which has been set to the secondary axis, hence it is related to a secondary x axis (which defaults to None in the Axes dropdown of the Layout tab and hence does not show up). Its all good folks, I have worked it out and it was merely a lack of understanding on my part. Is there a button somewhere to choose which data series the labels are linked to? Or have I just missed something obvious. This adjusts the x axis labels accordingly. I have a work around at the moment which is to click on the data series that uses the primary axis and change the range listed in the formula bar. To add insult to injury, using Select Data and editing the Horizontal Axis Labels does not affect the x axis labels. went from mmm-yy to their numerical equivalent. To overcome this spread of data I selected secondary axis for the data series with the higher range however when I did this, the x axis labels lost thier date format i.e. I am trying to create a simple scatter plot with numbers (between 0 and 6) on the vertical axis, and dates (in mm/dd/yyyy format) on the horizontal axis, with a data point for each day from 08/01/2. I have a large amount of data in the 0-240 range and one data series is in the 5000-6000 range. I am displaying monthly figures on a chart where the months appear across the x axis and are drawn from a different sheet containing all the data (I have a column with the months listed and the corresponding data across each row). I have a chart that worked perfectly in excel 2003 that has an issue in 2010.
